Bold Technologies and My Aion launch $2.5B smart city AI platform

Bold Technologies, a subsidiary of Bold Holdings based in Abu Dhabi, has partnered with My Aion, an international AI firm, to launch a $2.5 billion smart city initiative. This initiative, called Aion Sentia Cognitive City, aims to transform urban infrastructure using AI to optimize and manage systems across mobility, energy, education, healthcare, and digital services. The platform leverages Maia, My Aion’s AI core engine, offering advanced capabilities. For example, the AI will be able to personalize user experiences to the extent of recommending and booking anniversary dinners.

The project will initially launch in Abu Dhabi before expanding globally, with an expected launch date within 18 months. The initiative is structured under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, a public-private partnership common for large-scale projects. This model allows Bold Technologies and My Aion to construct, operate, and manage the system, recouping investment and generating profits before transferring ownership to a government entity after a predetermined period.

This collaboration is anticipated to create jobs for UAE nationals, foster local innovation, and contribute significantly to the national AI ecosystem. My Aion’s CEO, Daniele Marinelli, highlights the UAE’s supportive infrastructure and institutional environment as key factors in their decision to relocate operations to Abu Dhabi. The move is seen as a strategic step for scaling their global operations responsibly.

Meanwhile, the convergence of AI and digital assets continues to garner attention. Catena Labs, a project led by Circle co-founder Sean Neville, plans to establish an AI-native financial institution, emphasizing the synergistic potential of AI and stablecoins. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao also highlighted the potential for cryptocurrencies to become the primary currency for AI, citing blockchain technology’s utility beyond simple token creation. The increasing interest in AI’s potential applications, coupled with the ongoing development of AI-powered smart city initiatives, underscores the evolving landscape of technology and finance.
