Richard Garfield, creator of the iconic Magic The Gathering trading card game, has partnered with Tyranno Studios to launch Blockchain Brawlers. Blockchain Brawlers is a wrestling-themed NFT card game that lets you battle, trade and sell your tradeable NFT cards. The addition of Garfield signifies a shift towards a more gameplay focused GameFi narrative and a reduction of the speculative aspects of play-to-earn.
Any current trading card fan can definitely remember the influence Magic The Gathering has on the trading card genre. The creator of the iconic card game, Richard Garfield, has collaborated with Tyranno Studios to bring fans a new NFT PvP card game called Blockchain Brawlers.
Located in the WAX blockchain network, Blockchain Brawlers is a play-to-earn battle strategy game wherein players can own NFT wrestler cards and an NFT ring that enables users to earn $BRWL in-game tokens. The digital brawlers can be equipped with various gear that serves a purpose like increasing damage.
Brawler NFTs can be categorized into several rarities such as common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. $BRWL tokens are used to craft items, heal brawlers, and craft brawlers, providing multiple burning mechanisms for a healthier in-game economy.
Tyranno Studio seeks to leverage Garfield’s PvP expertise derived from his experience with Magic The Gathering. Blockchain Brawlers is looking to implement a similar feature to its gameplay since the game was originally PvE.
Garfield claims that the game will be more focused on gameplay which will distance itself from the speculative aspects of play-to-earn gaming is infamously known for. This follows the trend of web3’s redefinition of play-to-earn to play-and-earn when the focus is driven more towards gameplay or focused towards how users can be retained via the enjoyment derived from its gameplay.
In Blockchain Brawlers’ case, it could mean the implementation of enjoyable complex strategies . All players will have access to the same cards and materials to play, eliminating the possibility of an unfair trading card game.
The implementation of a more gameplay-driven NFT game ensures that the playing field is fair, regardless of how much money players poured into the game. This allows the expansion towards something that is not often talked about for GameFi titles, which is the prospect for esports.
Chief Gaming Officer of Tyranno Studios, Michael Rubinelli, expressed interest in expanding into hosting global competitions. Currently, its matchmaking ranking system can ensure fair matchups among players, allowing gamers to build their skills at a much more comfortable pace.
