Just under 12 years ago, Tatuaje and Smoke Inn partnered on a cigar called Anarchy, the first cigar in the retailer’s Microblend Series. Now, they are partnering to release an NFT of that cigar that comes with the opportunity to purchase more of the Anarchy cigars as well as a limited edition variant.
Seven Anarchy NFTs are being created, with six to be auctioned off in early 2023 via an as-yet undisclosed platform. The seventh will be issued to Abe Dababneh, Smoke Inn’s owner and the Anarchy brand creator.
“I could not imagine not owning one of these NFTs for myself and the company, it is where it all started,” Dababneh said via a press release. “For obvious reasons of conflict, we cannot be part of the bidding process. Our issued NFT will give us the exact same privileges and offerings as each other NFT owner,” he added.
Each NFT holder will receive a special 60-count collector’s box that includes 45 of the original Tatuaje Anarchy and 15 of the Anarchy Pale Horse Edition, which replaces the original Anarchy’s Nicaraguan habano maduro wrapper with a claro color grade wrapper, a lighter color of leaf, of undisclosed origin and varietal. The Anarchy Pale Horse Edition has been released just once before, at the 2020 Great Smoke pre-event dinner. According to a press release, only 300 cigars have been made thus far.
NFT holders will also receive a canvas version of their NFT, and will then be able to order up to 15 boxes of 15 cigars of the Anarchy per quarter, at a price of $14 per cigar.
“I’ve never fully understood NFTs but when Abe pitched me his idea and explained how he wanted to bring back the original Anarchy in this offering, I immediately wanted to be involved,” said Pete Johnson via a press release.
While fans of the Anarchy line may be excited to learn of the release, it also comes with some bad news.
“This very special NFT offering will put this cigar to rest forever, only ever being made available to the lucky people who are fortunate enough to purchase one of the Tatuaje Anarchy NFTs, said Dababneh. “I can’t wait to see what happens.”
A representative from Smoke Inn has clarified that the additional cigars will be the Tatuaje Anarchy, not the Anarchy Pale Horse Edition.
I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I’m a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
