Famed British painter, Patrick Hughes is set to launch his genesis NFT collection on the MakersPlace platform. He innovated the “reverspective technique” which is why his first ever NFT collection on Ethereum is called ‘Reverspective’. The collection will go live on Tuesday, July 26th at 6.30 PM EST.
The ‘Reverspective’ collection is being launched on MakersPlace early next week. The collection consists of two limited editions of 10 entitled ‘Banksy of England’ and ‘Pygmalion’.
MakersPlace helped accelerate digital art and NFTs onto the global stage, with the historic sale of Beeple’s Everydays: The First 5000 Days for $69.3 million in partnership with Christie’s auction house in March 2021. It was the first NFT marketplace to accept both cryptocurrency and fiat payments.
‘Banksy of England’ is a set of images that playfully embrace renowned English graffiti artist Banksy. As well as this, the iconic financial institution that encapsulates the British economy. The rioter throwing a floral bouquet, the Winged Victory of Thermophrace as a surveillance video camera, indeed all Banksy’s pictures, are there to make us think, and think again, about our society and its norms.
‘Pygmalion’ conveys yellow doors leading to a serene seascape with a blue sky. In Patrick Hughes’ art, doors are often used because they resemble reverspective construction movement as they open and close or reveal or conceal. These doors show us alternatively the closed doors or the splendid view beyond, depending on our movement and point of view.
Additionally, the collection includes one open-edition NFT entitled ‘Exhibitionism’. It features several artworks by legendary artists who inspire Patrick Hughes. With sculptures by Eduardo Paolozzi, Claes Oldenburg, and Andy Warhol. As well as paintings by Wayne Thiebaud, Roy Lichtenstein, Philip Guston, and Victor Vasarely, Hughes captures the essence of classic artwork and well-established artists entering a new world of digital art.
Patrick Hughes is a famed British artist known for his iconic innovations and visually-remarkable experiences. Patrick held his first solo show in 1961 at the Portal Gallery, London. Since then, throughout his career, the now 82-year-old created and built up his ‘reverspective’ technique. For the last 25 years, his 3D reverspective paintings have been massively in demand. Beyond this, they’ve been exhibited around the world and featured in many public collections.
