In the next 12 to 18 months, South Africans may be able to buy and sell listed cryptocurrencies on local exchanges, in a completely regulated environment.
This as the South African Reserve Bank’s (SARB) Prudential Authority (PA) is starting to look at regulating financial assets like cryptocurrencies.
Initially, the central bank’s stance was that it would “look” at cryptocurrency developments, but it would not get involved.
