John Terry has endorsed a rebrand of the 'Ape Kids Football Club' (AKFC) non-fungible token (NFT) project which swiftly crashed 90 per cent in price earlier this year.

Terry’s ‘Ape Kids Football Club’ NFTs were publicly trading for an average price of $656 after launch on February 2 but by March 8 the average price had dropped to $65 and has hovered around a similar level since.

The digital assets were promoted by the likes of Terry, Ashley Cole, Tammy Abraham and Jack Wilshere on social media, prompting spikes in prices, before a huge crash.

But a new "rebranded" NFT project has been launched in its place, with striking similarities, and former England and Chelsea defender Terry, who has been working in a consultancy coaching role at the west London club, is once again playing a part.

Inter Meta FC claims to be "The Fastest Growing Football NFT Community On The Block Chain" yet has little social media presence beyond a Twitter account and social media app Discord.

John Terry has been active in the server, saying he is "looking forward to the relaunch," and contributing signed shirts as prizes.

“Moving forward, Inter Meta FC will have no affiliation with John Terry or any professional footballers, as advisors / directors / financial beneficiaries of any kind,” says Bradley Marchant, project manager of Inter Meta FC which he says is undergoing a “full rebrand” from Ape Kids Football Club, adding that Terry has not been paid.

“The only link that we have with any said professionals is if they choose to join and support the brand and the vision that we are setting out to the community.”
