Warner Bros., on behalf of DC, previously announced their newest collection of NFTs. A release of 200,000 unique 3D rendered bat cowls influenced by DC’s caped crusader, Batman.
This is not Warner Bros.’s first foray into NFTs with collections launching off the back of recent releases such as The Matrix: Resurrections and Space Jam.
Warner Bros. is aiming to push the potential of Web3 by announcing new features and upgrades to the collection every 52 days along a planned 24-month journey.
The company is utilizing integrated storytelling – through a new collection of comics – so NFT holders can be a part of the narrative and create their own superhero, as well as vote as a collective to dictate storyline, characters, and art to help drive the ongoing narrative of the Bat Cowls.
There will also be further exclusive NFTs given to Bat Cowl NFT holders for free. This is set to entail exclusive art and specific behind-the-scenes elements.
Josh Hackbarth, Head of NFT Commercial Development for Warner Bros., explained fan engagement in the narrative process:
“The end result [will be] a DC Comic that was collaboratively developed with fan input. In the early part of the comic creation process, Bat Cowl holders will be presented with options for elements like the overall plot, title, key characters and costume designs,” he said.
Bat Cowl holders will also be able to link with Snapchat to showcase their art on their social channels. The entire collection is AR AR and metaverse ready and is one of the first examples of an NFT collection being available on both Web2 (Snapchat), and Web3 through nft.dcuniverse.com.
Bat Cowls purchased on April 26th in the pre-sale, and between April 27th and May 3rd, will also receive bonus NFTs of neighborhoods in Gotham City.

Hackbarth also commented on the price point for each NFT being $300 as Warner Bros. wants to make sure they have “touchpoints and price points for every fan.”
As movements in the entertainment sector around NFTs continue – and with a few successful releases already – I was curious to know where Warner Bros. sees its future in the Web3 world.
“The underlying technology can enable things we haven’t been able to do easily in the past, creating a shared sense of identity and collaboration, like an exclusive fan forum or offering unique, verifiable access to other experiences.”
He added, “Most importantly, we want to make sure our fans can always bring their fandom with them wherever they go, and we believe NFTs represent one of those exciting new areas.”
“We don’t necessarily look at it as a revenue opportunity, we look at it as a new place and opportunity to connect our world-class IP with our audience.”
Carl Runefelt, CEO and founder of The Moon Group, and Forbes Monaco 30 Under 30 listmaker is one of the youngest crypto billionaires in the world. He has invested in over 350 crypto start-ups, develops his own projects in the Web3 space, owns several high value NFTs – including a $1 million crypto punk, and now has a sponsorship deal with Formula 2 driver Ralph Boschung.
He has also enabled a charitable element to his crypto sphere by partnering with Boschung to collect crypto donations for disabled children at the 14 upcoming F2 races in the current season.

“When I first started in this industry crypto wasn’t popular at all, and few people understood Web3. Now everything’s changed. Major financial institutions are adopting crypto projects, specialist firms are popping up all over the place, and large media institutions are using NFTs to help scale their IP.”
Runefelt went on to specify how large projects – such as Warner Bros.’ – only help the Web3 space grow exponentially and aid in quickening adoption amongst the masses.
“I think it’s great. Any time a large entity such as Warner Bros. makes steps into the industry it benefits everyone. I think like many others now they’re starting to scratch the surface of the possibilities through Web3 dynamics.”
“Warner works as a strong proof of concept for individuals or businesses to look at and realize that maybe they should also capitalize and adapt their current models to include what will most certainly be a part of our futures.”
Only three years ago Runefelt was a store cashier, and now as a new billionaire, he plans on making The Moon Group the largest holder of Bitcoin BTC and crypto through their projects and general accumulation. He is bullish on being a world leader in generating mass crypto and Web3 adoption.
“This sector has changed my life and it has the potential of changing so many other lives also. From developing countries to SMEs, conglomerates, and young entrepreneurs. There is so much opportunity to capitalize on.”
Warner Bros. seems to agree as they are currently working on numerous ideas within the space to expand the division within the company. In a space that is finding its pioneers, Warner Bros. appears to be one at the forefront.
Hackbarth concluded: “This is really just the beginning for us. We have a lot more exciting programs that we’re working on and every day we are digging deeper into the possibilities and opportunities within web3 and the Metaverse.”
DC FanDome NFTs owners will have advanced access to the Bat Cowl pre-sale on April 26th at 12 am Pacific, whilst the public sale begins on April 27th at 12 am Pacific.
