Cryptocurrency investment products experienced a significant surge in inflows during the week ending May 24, 2025, totaling $3.3 billion. This brought the year-to-date (YTD) inflow total to a record $10.8 billion, surpassing the previous peak of $7.2 billion reached in February 2025. The data, released by CoinShares on May 26, indicates a robust recovery from the approximately $7 billion in outflows observed in February and March. Assets under management (AUM) in crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) briefly hit an all-time high of $187.5 billion, reflecting strong investor interest.
CoinShares attributes the increased inflows to growing concerns about the US economy, particularly following Moody’s downgrade and the subsequent rise in treasury yields. Investors appear to be seeking diversification through digital assets. Bitcoin (BTC) ETPs led the charge with $2.9 billion in inflows, constituting a substantial portion of the 2024 YTD total. Interestingly, despite Bitcoin’s surge above $110,000 on May 22, short-BTC products also saw significant inflows, reaching $12.7 million—the highest level since December 2024. This suggests some investors are hedging against potential price corrections.
Ether (ETH) ETPs maintained their positive momentum, recording $326 million in inflows for the fifth consecutive week, fueled by the successful Pectra upgrade. However, XRP (XRP) ETPs experienced a sharp reversal, with $37.2 million in outflows—the largest on record—despite positive developments such as the potential for a US spot XRP ETF and significant XRP futures trading volume. The majority of altcoin ETPs saw minimal or no inflows.
This latest data underscores the continued growth and resilience of the crypto ETP market. The substantial inflows, driven primarily by Bitcoin, demonstrate investor confidence and a search for alternative investment avenues amid broader economic uncertainty. The contrasting performance of XRP highlights the inherent volatility and risk within the cryptocurrency market.
