The EY3K0N Anthology is an NFT-powered digital comic book series from Rebel Studios. Which, yes, is still a thing. A series of comic book stories set in their EY3K0N world. And today they are launching what they call a limited free airdrop of NFT access passes to provide holders with an exclusive look at the series, as well as access to interactive experiences and puzzles as the stories unfold. Or, as we used to call it, a free preview. A NFT access pass to this can be found by visiting https://ey3k0n.io/CL41M
Contributors include Tom DeFalco, Jim Cheung, Jae Lee, Siya Oum, Ulises Arreola, Ron Frenz, Pat Olliffe, Richard Starking, Allesandro Micelli, Kewber Baal, Fernando Ruiz, A.K.A, Blake Northcott, and others and it has been in development for nearly two years, with folks including Adam Pollina, former creative director of Xbox Studios Sean Stewart as lead writer, GTA co-creator and Head of Game Design Stewart Waterson and Jesse McMillin.
The series will be accessible in the form of digital comics on the EY3K0N.io website, and will explore the theme of what society might look like in the near future with technology enhancements. Whatever hellscape that might bring.
The EY3K0N Anthology, an “AR-enabled cypherpunk” comic, will be accessible to readers in the form of digital comics on EY3K0N.io, with plans to expand into printed formats throughout 2023.
The first issue of the NFT EY3K0N digital comic is set to be released on December 22, 2022, with the “free airdrop of NFT access passes” taking place from today. You are told to “look out for easter eggs and rabbit holes as the Anthology develops, as there are multiple layers of experience depending on how deep you dare to go.”
A free NFT airdrop will act as an access pass to the Web3 interactive experience layer. Sneak peaks of the art show what appears to be a blank pill, with all that this implies and promising alternative reality gaming and augmented reality experiences to play an integral part as the comic series plays out.
Tom DeFalco:  “I wasn’t part of the Marvel Bullpen in the early 1960’s. I wasn’t there when Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and a host of others built the creative foundations of what has come to be known as the Marvel Universe. But I am here today as Jesse McMillin, Adam Pollina, Blake Northcott, Jimmy Cheung, Alessandro Micelli, Ron Frenz, Patrick Olliffe, Fernando Ruiz and a host of others shape the EY3K0N Universe. It’s exhilarating to be part of a creative team filled with so much energy, openness and support. Exciting new characters, intriguing new ideas and fascinating new worlds spring from every discussion. I’m having an ever-lovin’ blast and I know the readers will, too.”
Blake Northcott: “EY3K0N’s creative team reminds me of the early days of Image Comics, where the top creators from all different companies collaborated to build something fresh and groundbreaking. It’s such a warm, welcoming environment. I’ve never felt so creatively liberated. If Marvel is ‘The world outside your window’, EY3K0N is ‘The world of tomorrow’. It’s a vision of the inevitable future we’re racing towards, exploring how we’re not just relying on technology anymore — we’re integrated with it. Our immersion into the virtual space is deepening, and EY3K0N dives into all aspects of these uncharted waters.”
Sean Stewart: “As a writer, I think the world of EY3K0N is terrifically entertaining. It’s got big personalities scheming and scrapping and falling in love, set in a world that underscores just how weird our influencer-driver, AI-managed future might be. We’re willing to give you a few shivers, but this is ultimately not a grim dystopia (if you want that, turn on the news!)”
Stewart Waterson: “Since I began working in games, which is close to 30 years now, I’ve always been interested in working on the edge of technologies & finding unique ways to bring players into a new space. The Web 3/Blockchain space is reminiscent of the early days of some key milestones in video games for me. From being at the forefront of the rise in popularity of ‘Mature’ games such as GTA & State of Emergency to the advent of mobile & ‘free to play’ social games, I love being at the frontier of genres and I’m confident the next creative powerhouse will come from this space, where innovation and ‘all hands on deck’ are the order of the day. I’m lucky enough to work with a great mix of talent, both established and emerging. My colleagues at Rebel range from veteran game developers, renowned comic book artists from Marvel & DC to creatives from Nike all working to build and some real ‘up and coming’ talent from the Web 3 community who I learn from every day.”
