Candle Media’s Exile Content Studio has purchased a majority interest in the NFT franchise Lil’ Heroes.
Exile co-created the brand with Spanish artist Edgar Plans and launched with a collection of 7,000 NFTs this January. More than US$60 million has changed hands for them so far on the Curatible.io marketplace, according to a release, which adds that the brand has also attracted a community of more than 80,000 members on instant messaging app Discord.
Before the Lil’ Heroes acquisition, Exile announced plans to expand the brand’s cast of mischievous mouse-eared characters into an animated kids TV series that would then move into consumer products, publishing and digital games. The show is currently in development, with Carmelo Anthony (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) executive producing and starring.
This move extends the super-charged buying spree that Candle Media has been on lately. Led by former Disney execs Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, the Blackstone-backed company acquired Exile and prodco/creative agency ATTN: (both based in LA) for an undisclosed amount in May. And it also purchased Israeli studio Faraway Road Productions in January.
These three companies have since joined CoComelon producer Moonbug Entertainment, Reese Witherspoon’s film studio Hello Sunshine (Where the Crawdads Sing; Legally Blonde 3), and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc. (King Richard) in Candle’s growing portfolio of assets.
