ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Tampa Bay Rays have announced its first promotional ticket NFT giveaway in partnership with Candy Digital, Major League Baseball’s official NFT partner. Prior to the game tomorrow, July 16 at 4:10 p.m. against the Baltimore Orioles, all fans in attendance can claim a free Wander Franco-themed NFT and a free ticket to a future Rays home game. A promotional giveaway of a physical Franco Bobblehead will also be distributed while supplies last.
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a digital collectible in which ownership is unique and verified through data stored on blockchain technology. The Rays are the first MLB club to offer promotional tickets as a reward for claiming an NFT.
“It’s a little bit of old school meets new school,” said Rays Chief Business Officer Bill Walsh. “We have a traditional bobblehead, but we also have the NFT digital collectible, much like a baseball card that many of us collected in our youth.”
All fans who scan a game ticket on the MLB Ballpark app upon entering Tropicana Field will receive an email from RaysBaseball.com within 48 hours. The email will include information on how to create a Candy Digital account, which is required to receive the NFT.
In collaboration with Candy Digital, the Rays created three distinct background themes for the NFT. Each account will receive one of the unique designs at random, each with its own level of rarity, purpose and future utility.
Each account that scans a ticket to the game and claims the NFT will receive an additional email from RaysBaseball.com on Thursday, July 21 with information regarding redemption of the free promotional ticket. To be eligible, fans must claim the NFT by Wednesday, July 20 at 11:59 p.m. For more information, visit RaysBaseball.com/NFT.
