It’s happening, alright. Polium, a Web 3 company (Web 3 is an idea of a new version of the internet that we know today, with a form distributed in the blockchain) has revealed the very first NFT video game console this weekend.
Called the Polium One, this little black box is meant to be “a multi-chain console for Web 3 gaming” and will have both existing and exclusive games on the system when it launches sometime in 2024. And while the console has drawn some criticism online, some of you eagle-eyed Twitter users have spotted some similarities between Polium’s logo and a certain Nintendo console’s own.
Just take a closer look at the box or on the middle button of the controller in the tweet below. Flip it around a little. Add a line. Do you see it?
Maybe “do you hear it?” might be a better question, if you’re familiar with the GameCube’s start-up sound, that is. If you flip Polium’s logo around and draw a line in the middle — ta-da! And it didn’t take very long for people to start ripping into the company for the similarities.
@OddOttAllen has even carried out our directions and shown just how the logo may well potentially be ‘inspired’ by the GameCube’s iconic box-G.
Earlier today, Polium responded to claims that the company had ‘copied’ the GameCube’s logo, outlining its plans for the blockchain console on social media, stating that the ‘P’ shape was for Polium and the cube in the middle stands for the console’s selling-point — NFTs and blockchain.
Even though Polium has said that it will be changing its logo and will come up with something original, do you think that people stopped teasing the company online? Of course not. We can sometimes rely on Twitter for a good chuckle in the afternoon, especially a Nintendo-related one.
The GameCube is not the only logo that Polium’s logo has been compared to. Minecraft fans have also been quick to highlight that the Polium One’s little ‘P’ is more than a bit reminiscent of PebbleHost‘s own, a known reputable server hosting service used for Minecraft.
Or perhaps Polium is just a huge fan of UK-based publisher PQube, who has helped bring games like New Super Lucky’s Tale and Cat Quest to Switch, and are publishing the upcoming Potion Permit.
It’s a fairly popular logo shape, for sure, but even if it’s a coincidence, it’s hard not to notice the similarities with these designs, especially the GameCube’s, which has long cemented itself as a legendary video game console logo.
We’ll have to see what the new logo for the Polium One will look like.

The difference between this and other companies using similar logos is that the other companies using similar logos aren’t making gaming consoles… I feel like that’s grounds for a lawsuit.
Oh god …Please die already. NFT’s are an absolute disgrace to humanity and seeing them next to my favourite game console of all time makes it even worse.

So it’s the Ouya, but with blockchain and NFTs because that’ll obviously fix all the problems the Ouya had. If this is the "future" of gaming, I’ll go pick up a new hobby.

This will be infinitely more unsuccessful than the Ouya. Honestly if this is the future of gaming I would rather play with my He Man figures again from when I was a kid lol

Pretty sure they’re pulling a Trump campaign donation strategy where they just take the money and never use it for what it was intended to be used for. Or perhaps to flee to Mexico or something because I don’t see this ever being a real thing
This is one of those times where the general concept is so unappealing that I have zero interest in it right away.
This is one instance where I would be happy to see Nintendo sic the "Red and Blue Copyright Demon" on these people, due to my hatred of NFTs.
The day NFT’s die out is the day I can sleep soundly at night.

NFTs have already crashed and burned, and these guys can’t even come up with a compelling game plan (no pun intended) beyond "It’s the future!"
I’ll be surprised if these ever even ship, I’ll eat a hat store if it succeeds.

Before hating on NFTs, don’t get the actual technology mixed up with the marketplace. That would be like getting emails mixed up with email scammers.
@Abes3 no. Firstly it’s barely even a concept, but secondly no blockchain isn’t the same as cloud. For one blockchain is VERY environmentally harmful as it generates false scarcity through electrical waste (computers do increasingly hard maths constantly to prove that a digital file is ‘unique’). Secondly blockchain doesn’t do anything useful, hence all the jargon and buzzwords thrown out around it instead of actual, understandable facts. It’s a solution in search of a problem that actually creates many more problems.
Kotaku have a very humorous and much more in depth article about this device which anyone who isn’t already writing this off as a joke/obvious scam should look at.
For example the “specs” it claims to have at both 4K and 8k, 120fps, ray tracing and TouchID (a technology owned by Apple that it absolutely cannot have). They also provide a list of games which is…none but there will be ways to spend crypto coins! And the apparent ‘timeline’ that features no actual times and declares that they will design the console before working on the electronics inside it.
As with all NFT/blockchain/crypto/web3.0 things it’s a complete scam.
I didn’t know the Amico had a name change and a new design.

At least when the companies who made Farmville and Angry Birds said those games were the future of gaming they had a little in the bank to back up their ridiculous candor.
