Emulating the Grand Slams, the tournament winner will receive an NFT collection as part of the prize package
The Mallorca Championships becomes the first ATP tournament to launch its own NFT (Non Fungible Token) collection in a move that until now, only Grand Slams have dared to make. A unique and historic step.
The project consists of collections of three rackets each in which 12 artists from the island have designed and expressed their projects and art in the form of these rackets.
These pieces have been digitised then immortalised and are now on the OpenSea platform where you can buy them from today until July 15.
As the event organisers explain, “each of the racquets expresses, in its own way, a universe of emotions that is difficult to match”.
But this tournament’s innovation was to digitise the artists’ works and turn them into NFTs or non-fungible tokens.
This type of asset is unique and thanks to the blockchain allows the ownership of the work to be traced.
As a new feature, the tournament champion will receive an NFT collection as part of the prize package.
During the tournament in the VIP area it will be possible to visit the physical pieces and enter the auction to purchase the NFTs.
An ambitious, global project brought to life by local artists, as the 12 virtuosos involved in the project live on the island.
Pilar Carbonell, director of e|motion Sports Hispania, stressed that “for us this is a very ambitious and innovative project, and we wanted to take it forward with local artists. It seemed like a great opportunity to show the world the quality of Mallorcan artists”.
It is also a sustainable project in which all the rackets used for the event had already completed their life cycle.
Thanks to Babolat, they have been reused to avoid ending up in rubbish bins. An innovative, sustainable, local and circular project.
